A leather sole replacement renews the ground-contact leather beneath a suitable shoe. It is a structural job, distinct from polishing the upper or fitting a small heel surface. The attachment method and condition beneath the worn sole determine the scope.
Show the whole pair, both soles and the sole edges. A photograph can identify visible wear, but it cannot confirm the condition of every hidden layer. The studio confirms the scope and quotation for your actual pair after assessment.
Signs to look for
- Sole leather worn thin or through
- Splitting at the ground-contact surface
- A sole separating from the shoe
Confirm the construction
The studio checks how the sole is attached and whether the upper, welt or supporting components can accommodate the proposed work. A visible stitch line alone does not establish the construction.
Agree the material and scope
Discuss the replacement sole, any edge work and whether the heel or other components also need attention. Additional work is assessed separately rather than silently included in a generic resole.
Inspect the completed pair
The agreed work is checked on the actual shoes. Combined turnaround depends on the scope and material availability; timing is confirmed with the studio.
After the repair
After the repair, let damp shoes dry naturally away from direct heat. Discuss suitable material care and rotation with the studio rather than applying a new coating to the soles without advice.
