Orthopaedic and adaptive footwear repairs
Discuss repairs to orthopaedic, comfort and adaptive footwear, with care for existing adaptations and the way each pair is used.
Orthopaedic, comfort and adaptive footwear can have particular fitting or accessibility requirements and deserves an individual repair assessment. The Cobbler’s Studio welcomes orthopaedic and adaptive footwear enquiries, including concerns about worn uppers, linings, stitching, fastenings and everyday wear.
Start with the actual pair and explain what needs attention. An ordinary repair and a change to a prescribed adaptation are different briefs. Existing adaptations should be discussed with the original orthotist or clinic before work, so the repair does not inadvertently change the intended fit or function.
Work to discuss
- Assessment of worn leather uppers, loose seams and damaged linings.
- Repairs to suitable straps, closures, pull tabs and fastening attachments.
- Assessment of ordinary heel and sole wear where the footwear’s construction permits it.
- Material-appropriate cleaning, conditioning and finishing alongside agreed repairs.
What the studio assesses
- Whether the pair includes prescribed adaptations, raises, modified soles or specialist inserts.
- Which components can be repaired while retaining the existing specification.
- Access requirements, fastening preferences and the condition of supporting materials.
Prepare a useful brief.
- Keep both shoes and any existing inserts available; do not dismantle an adaptation.
- Mention the orthotics provider and bring any relevant fitting or repair instructions.
- Explain the practical concern, such as a fastening that is difficult to use or a lining worn through.
Contact the studio before posting technical, large or fragile items. We agree the approach, price and timing after assessment.
Discuss your item with the studio.
Tell us what the item is, how it is used and what needs attention. Include photographs where you can. An enquiry starts a conversation; work begins after the scope and price are agreed.
