Keys & Watches

Strap and bracelet work covers fitting, sizing and replacing the band that attaches to your watch's lugs, in materials from leather to steel mesh. We size to your wrist and to the correct lug width, and can advise on which strap type suits how the watch actually gets worn - a leather strap and a lap-swimming habit are not a good match, for instance.

FAQ

Can you cut a key without the original?

In most cases yes - standard cylinder, mortice and euro keys can usually be cut from the lock itself, or from a code stamped on the lock or key. A small number of restricted or patented keyways need proof that you're entitled to a copy before we can order and cut a blank.

Is my watch still water-resistant after a battery change?

Not automatically - opening the case back to change a battery disturbs the seal underneath it. We check, and where needed replace, the case back gasket as part of the job, and can pressure test to confirm the watch is genuinely sealed again, which we'd recommend for anything worn swimming or diving.

Can you service a mechanical or automatic watch, or only replace batteries?

Both - a battery swap only applies to quartz movements. Mechanical and automatic watches need a proper service instead: a full strip-down, cleaning, re-oiling and regulation, which is a longer job than a battery change, so it's worth asking about turnaround before you bring the watch in.

Do you cut high-security or dimple keys?

Dimple keys, yes, using the correct blank and machine. Some high-security systems are on a restricted keyway only supplied to authorised locksmiths, or tied to the manufacturer's own registration scheme - if your key falls into that category we'll tell you what's needed rather than attempt a copy that won't work reliably.

Can you engrave a message on a gift item while I wait?

Simple text engraving on a standard item is usually while-you-wait. More detailed work - fine jewellery, curved surfaces, or anything needing careful fixturing - may need to be left with us for a short time, depending on the piece.

Will a new strap or bracelet affect my watch's water resistance?

Not usually - resistance comes down to the crown, case back and pusher seals, not the strap itself. The exception is an integrated bracelet on a dive-style watch, where removing the bracelet can affect the case seal, so we check this as routine on that type of watch.
